The Cowboys did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Joshua Farmer fell into the 149th pick. Good, not great, and the B says as much.
Leaving linebacker unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. On the needs board they went 5 of 8, with wide receiver the one that mattered most.
The skill positions did well by the weekend.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
Ashton Jeanty slid further than he should have, and the 12th pick is lovely value for the running back. The roster fit checks out.
Nick Emmanwori in the 44th overall pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
You do not let a running back like TreVeyon Henderson reach pick 76 and blink. They did not. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Circle this one: Joshua Farmer at Round 5, Pick 11 is a fall that decides a draft. A need, and now a little less of one.
A wide receiver of that caliber at the Round 5 slot is the definition of value, full stop. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Jonah Monheim is a better player than slot 174 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Nohl Williams at No. 204 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A top-tier safety at a bargain, Jaylen Reed in pick No. 211, plain and simple. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Isaac TeSlaa at Round 7, Pick 23. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
John Williams at pick No. 247 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
