Dallas Cowboys

Best value of the weekend goes to the Cowboys for Farmer: B.

The Cowboys did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Joshua Farmer fell into the 149th pick. Good, not great, and the B says as much.

Leaving linebacker unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. On the needs board they went 5 of 8, with wide receiver the one that mattered most.

The skill positions did well by the weekend.

Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.12 · Pick 12 · Ashton Jeanty · RB · rank 2
Ashton Jeanty slid further than he should have, and the 12th pick is lovely value for the running back. The roster fit checks out.
R2.12 · Pick 44 · Nick Emmanwori · S · rank 20
Nick Emmanwori in the 44th overall pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
R3.12 · Pick 76 · TreVeyon Henderson · RB · rank 55
You do not let a running back like TreVeyon Henderson reach pick 76 and blink. They did not. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R5.11 · Pick 149 · Joshua Farmer · DT · rank 117
Circle this one: Joshua Farmer at Round 5, Pick 11 is a fall that decides a draft. A need, and now a little less of one.
R5.33 · Pick 171 · Pat Bryant · WR · rank 143
A wide receiver of that caliber at the Round 5 slot is the definition of value, full stop. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R5.36 · Pick 174 · Jonah Monheim · C · rank 165
Jonah Monheim is a better player than slot 174 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R6.28 · Pick 204 · Nohl Williams · CB · rank 181
Nohl Williams at No. 204 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R6.35 · Pick 211 · Jaylen Reed · S · rank 183
A top-tier safety at a bargain, Jaylen Reed in pick No. 211, plain and simple. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
R7.23 · Pick 239 · Isaac TeSlaa · WR · rank 227
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Isaac TeSlaa at Round 7, Pick 23. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R7.31 · Pick 247 · John Williams · OT · rank 242
John Williams at pick No. 247 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
