Every other box got a look, but quarterback did not. The Cowboys will head to camp with the same hole they walked in with. Good, not great, and the B says as much.
Getting Watson where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. On the needs board they went 5 of 8, with wide receiver the one that mattered most.
They trusted the board more than the depth chart.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 24th pick they get a No. 1 receiver at a price that makes it sweeter. The biggest hole, addressed.
The board had Denzel Burke higher than the Round 2 slot, and the cornerback fell to them anyway. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They paid sticker price for Christian Mahogany in pick 87, and that is fine. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A tidy little value on Jahdae Barron in the 124th overall pick, a step better than break-even. A minor need, but a need all the same.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Ty'Ron Hopper in Round 5, Pick 38. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Jawhar Jordan in pick No. 212. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Nice patience on Nathaniel Watson, who had no business lasting to No. 245. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
