Los Angeles Chargers

More right than wrong for the Chargers, and a B+ to prove it.

Somehow the biggest item on the list survived the weekend. The Chargers never addressed interior defensive lineman, and it is the kind of gap that lingers. It does the job without flash, and the B+ reflects it.

Whatever else happened, they won the night they took McClellan. Adding De'Von Achane by trade rounds out the weekend beyond the rookies.

All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.22 · Pick 22 · Troy Franklin · WR · rank 26
In Round 1, Pick 22 they get a matchup problem out wide. Exactly the need they had to hit.
R2.5 · Pick 37 · Chris Braswell · LB-EDGE · rank 34
Chris Braswell at pick No. 37 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R3.5 · Pick 69 · Mike Sainristil · CB · rank 83
A premium they did not need to pay, Mike Sainristil a notch or two before his time. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R4.5 · Pick 105 · Zak Zinter · OG · rank 94
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Zak Zinter at No. 105. It fills a real need, too.
R5.6 · Pick 142 · Theo Johnson · TE · rank 146
No edge and no loss on Theo Johnson in pick 142; it is a wash and a sensible one. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R5.23 · Pick 159 · LaDarius Henderson · OT · rank 159
LaDarius Henderson in the Round 5 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R6.8 · Pick 183 · Michael Barrett · LB · rank 180
A clean, defensible pick in the 183rd pick with a little surplus value in Michael Barrett. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
R7.6 · Pick 226 · Jase McClellan · RB · rank 209
The board had Jase McClellan higher than the 226th overall pick, and the running back fell to them anyway. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
