The board owed the Cowboys one, and it paid up: Kayden McDonald, the No. 18 name on the board, sitting there at the 180th pick like a gift left on the doorstep.
That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 6 of 8 of the wish list covered.
Nearly every premium pick went to that side of the ball.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.

In slot 12 they get the heartbeat of the defense. The biggest hole, addressed.
In pick 20 they get a quarterback's worst nightmare at a price that makes it sweeter. More want than need.
They robbed the room for Mansoor Delane here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Steal is underselling it; Carnell Tate at the 112th overall pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Colton Hood in No. 152 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.

Kayden McDonald in pick No. 180 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Taking Dametrious Crownover in Round 7, Pick 2 is close to grand larceny; an offensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
