The search is over. The Raiders handed the keys to Michael Penix Jr., and the whole operation now runs on his development. The bottom line is a respectable B-.
Paul falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped tight end, which is a strange place to end up.
The bill for those future picks comes due whether the class hits or not.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the tight end spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 9 they get their quarterback of the future. A clean fit for the roster.
No edge and no loss on Xavier Worthy in pick 44; it is a wash and a sensible one. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Patrick Paul at No. 77 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Khyree Jackson in Round 4, Pick 12. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Keith Randolph Jr. in pick No. 150 is fair value, right on his grade. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A straight-up fair deal on Jordan Magee at the 190th overall pick, value and slot in agreement. It adds depth where they could use a little.
They read the board right and Blake Watson was the payoff at the 234th pick. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
