There is conviction, and then there is this. The Dolphins took Matthew Jones a full 25 picks ahead of where the board had him, an overdraft steep enough that it colors the whole weekend.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up. The Jackson pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes.
Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 21 they get a building block for the line. A real need, handled.
They let Chris Braswell come to them and pounced at the Round 2 slot. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Nehemiah Pritchett at slot 158 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Fabien Lovett in the 184th pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Somehow Jha'Quan Jackson was still sitting there in No. 198, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Matthew Jones at Round 7, Pick 21 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
