Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Josh Newton got past him. The Chargers do not have to explain a thing at pick 105. It nets out to a B, which feels about right.
A whole weekend of picks and interior defensive lineman is somehow still a want. The dealing nudged the ledger their way without much fuss.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 7th pick they get a moveable chess piece at tight end. A real need, handled.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Kamari Lassiter at the 37th overall pick. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They let Jordan Morgan come to them and pounced at pick 38. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Chris Braswell at pick No. 69 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Steal is underselling it; Josh Newton at No. 105 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing MarShawn Lloyd in slot 142. The roster fit checks out.
Somehow Ty'Ron Hopper was still sitting there in Round 6, Pick 8, and they pounced on premier linebacker value. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
They barely believed it either: Jaylen Wright still on the board at the Round 6 slot. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Trevor Keegan at the 226th pick is a conviction pick that outran the value. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
