This is the pick they will still be bragging about in July: Karene Reid, the No. 194 name on the board, stolen at slot 240. More right than wrong, and a B to match.
The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. Every board in the league had Simpkins III lower, and that gap is the story. They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 25 they get a building block for the line, a steep price for the projection. A clean fit for the roster.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Derrick Harmon in the 38th overall pick. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A premium they did not need to pay, Darien Porter a notch or two before his time. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
They robbed the room for Will Howard here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It fills a real need, too.
Fair-plus on Hayden Conner, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A need, and now a little less of one.
A big swing on Torricelli Simpkins III at Round 7, Pick 4, well ahead of any board in the building. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
You do not let a linebacker like Karene Reid reach the Round 7 slot and blink. They did not. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
