The Patriots did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Savion Williams fell into the Round 4 slot. Call it a sensible B-, earned the boring way.
The Lindenberg reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
They did well to land Travis Hunter in No. 4, just ahead of his grade. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Nick Emmanwori at pick 38 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Circle this one: Aireontae Ersery at the 69th overall pick is a fall that decides a draft. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Jayden Higgins at the Round 3 slot is the proof. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They robbed the room for Donovan Jackson here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Savion Williams in pick No. 119 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They will replay Jordan James at slot 144 for years; that is how good the value is. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They paid a round early for Teddye Buchanan in Round 7, Pick 1, more than the board wanted. A minor need, but a need all the same.
A big swing on Cody Lindenberg at the Round 7 slot, well ahead of any board in the building. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
A slide stopped in No. 238, with Ja'Corey Brooks worth more than the price. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
