Nobody else had Trey Moore anywhere near pick No. 211. The Cowboys did, by 82 spots, and that gap is the whole story.
That is a running back worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
A clean, defensible pick in pick 24 with a little surplus value in Walter Nolen. It fills a real need, too.
Isaiah Bond at Round 2, Pick 12 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A quiet steal in No. 76: Dylan Sampson for less than the market said. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Circle this one: Jack Nelson at the Round 5 slot is a fall that decides a draft. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Taking Jordan Phillips in the 161st pick is close to grand larceny; an interior defensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They barely believed it either: Kalel Mullings still on the board at the 170th overall pick. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They robbed the room for Mello Dotson here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A real head-scratcher, Addison West in pick 174 is miles ahead of his ranking. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Chase Lundt in the 190th pick is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A big swing on Trey Moore at No. 211, well ahead of any board in the building. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
No edge and no loss on Cody Lindenberg in Round 7, Pick 31; it is a wash and a sensible one. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
