New England Patriots

The Patriots let Fashanu fall into their laps, and walked away with a B.

When a board-topper like Olumuyiwa Fashanu slides to pick No. 68, you do not overthink it, and the Patriots did not.

Every board in the league had Travis lower, and that gap is the story. They will regret leaving interior defensive lineman for another day if the season turns on it.

A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.3 · Pick 3 · Marvin Harrison Jr. · WR · rank 1
In pick 3 they get a difference-maker at receiver. The biggest hole, addressed.
R2.2 · Pick 34 · Joe Alt · OT · rank 4
Somehow Joe Alt was still sitting there in pick No. 34, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R3.4 · Pick 68 · Olumuyiwa Fashanu · OT · rank 8
A offensive lineman of that caliber at the 68th overall pick is the definition of value, full stop. A need, and now a little less of one.
R4.3 · Pick 103 · Bralen Trice · DE-EDGE · rank 63
Taking Bralen Trice in slot 103 is close to grand larceny; an edge rusher that good had no business lasting this long. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R5.1 · Pick 137 · Jordan Travis · QB · rank 173
They talked themselves into Jordan Travis at the Round 5 slot, and the board did not agree. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R6.5 · Pick 180 · Dwight McGlothern · CB · rank 161
The board fumbled Dwight McGlothern all the way to Round 6, Pick 5, and they scooped it up. A minor itch, scratched.
R6.18 · Pick 193 · Jha'Quan Jackson · WR · rank 179
They read the board right and Jha'Quan Jackson was the payoff at No. 193. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R7.11 · Pick 231 · Evan Williams · S · rank 215
Evan Williams is a better player than the 231st pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
