The Chiefs did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Johnny Wilson fell into pick No. 159.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through quarterback. The Mitchell reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. They went 4 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 32 they get a No. 1 receiver. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Steal is underselling it; Kamari Lassiter at pick 64 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Calen Bullock is a better player than the 95th overall pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
They liked Trevor Keegan enough to skip the value, taking him in pick No. 132. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Johnny Wilson in No. 159 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
