Call it larceny. Dont'e Thornton Jr. sat on the board until pick 213, and the Raiders did not need to be asked twice.
They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it. They are betting Milroe proves the room right and everyone else wrong.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
Tetairoa McMillan at slot 14 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the wide receiver. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Nice patience on Shavon Revel Jr., who had no business lasting to pick No. 37. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
No edge and no loss on Carson Schwesinger in pick 68; it is a wash and a sensible one. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Jalen Milroe at No. 80 is a conviction pick that outran the value. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Circle this one: Deone Walker at the 108th overall pick is a fall that decides a draft. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Damien Martinez at Round 5, Pick 5 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. It fills a real need, too.
Bhayshul Tuten at the Round 6 slot is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A need, and now a little less of one.
Steal is underselling it; Dont'e Thornton Jr. at the 213th pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They read the board right and Caleb Ransaw was the payoff at the 215th pick. A minor itch, scratched.
No drama and no debate, Robert Longerbeam went about where he belonged in pick No. 222. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
