There was a run on nobody at that position, and the Packers started one anyway for Frank Crum, 39 picks ahead of schedule.
Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. The Hadden pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged.
The roster is better shaped than it was, with edge rusher chief among the fixes.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get protection for the quarterback. A clean fit for the roster.
A straight-up fair deal on Cooper Beebe at slot 41, value and slot in agreement. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A slide stopped in the 58th pick, with Edgerrin Cooper worth more than the price. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Good price on Jaden Hicks in the 88th overall pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Dominick Puni at No. 91 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They liked Roger Rosengarten enough to skip the value, taking him in pick No. 126. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A reach on Khristian Boyd in the Round 5 slot; the board had better options right there. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Kamal Hadden in pick 185 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They let Myles Harden come to them and pounced at the 219th overall pick. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Frank Gore Jr. slid further than he should have, and No. 237 is lovely value for the running back. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A tidy little value on Trevin Wallace in Round 7, Pick 18, a step better than break-even. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
They paid sticker price for Jalen Sundell in slot 245, and that is fine. The roster fit checks out.
Trey Taylor at the 255th pick jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Frank Crum at pick No. 256 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Ryan Watts at the 257th overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
