Somebody in No. 167 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Texans sat still while Zy Alexander, the No. 59 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. This is how you run a draft, and the A- reflects it.
Brown has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
Bottom line, with Walter Nolen leading the way, this is a class that should pay off fast and rarely be regretted.
Pick-by-Pick
R3.1
· Pick 65
· Walter Nolen
· DT
· rank 17
Circle this one: Walter Nolen at slot 65 is a fall that decides a draft. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R3.3
· Pick 67
· Shemar Stewart
· DE-EDGE
· rank 23
Taking Shemar Stewart in pick No. 67 is close to grand larceny; an edge rusher that good had no business lasting this long. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R3.34
· Pick 98
· Jake Majors
· C
· rank 107
A reach on Jake Majors in No. 98; the board had better options right there. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R4.3
· Pick 104
· Cam Skattebo
· RB
· rank 105
Cam Skattebo at the Round 4 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R4.26
· Pick 127
· Tez Johnson
· WR
· rank 90
Tez Johnson at the 127th pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R4.34
· Pick 135
· Logan Brown
· OT
· rank 156
A big swing on Logan Brown at pick 135, well ahead of any board in the building. It fills a real need, too.
R5.16
· Pick 155
· Elijah Arroyo
· TE
· rank 78
A top-tier tight end at a bargain, Elijah Arroyo in Round 5, Pick 16, plain and simple. The roster fit checks out.
R5.28
· Pick 167
· Zy Alexander
· CB
· rank 59
Somehow Zy Alexander was still sitting there in the 167th overall pick, and they pounced on premier cornerback value. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
R6.30
· Pick 208
· Sai'vion Jones
· DE-EDGE
· rank 148
Sai'vion Jones in No. 208 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R7.25
· Pick 243
· Cody Simon
· LB
· rank 136
You do not let a linebacker like Cody Simon reach pick 243 and blink. They did not. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R7.39
· Pick 257
· Ricky White III
· WR
· rank 206
They robbed the room for Ricky White III here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
