Give the war room a raise for the dealing alone. The Chargers came out ahead on every exchange that mattered, and it was not close.
That is a linebacker worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. That cornerback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
The veteran additions, Zach Tom chief among them, give the class a floor the rookies alone would not. Edge rusher is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 13th overall pick they get a go-to option on the outside at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
They took Ja'Tavion Sanders at par in Round 2, Pick 21, which is nothing to complain about. A need, and now a little less of one.
Kamren Kinchens in No. 54 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
By-the-book stuff, Brandon Dorlus at the 57th pick squarely in line with his ranking. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They paid sticker price for Mekhi Wingo in slot 65, and that is fine. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Jacob Cowing in pick 105 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
James Williams slipping to No. 142 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
Braelon Allen in Round 5, Pick 14 is fair value, right on his grade. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Steal is underselling it; Edefuan Ulofoshio at the Round 6 slot is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
A tidy little value on Jontrey Hunter in slot 226, a step better than break-even. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
