The Patriots clearly saw something nobody else did in Andrew Armstrong, taking him 55 picks ahead of his grade. The board is not convinced. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B-.
That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. The Harmon pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged.
Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it. They came away with juice, if not much beef up front.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 4th overall pick they get a three-down runner. A clean fit for the roster.
A slide stopped in the 38th pick, with Derrick Harmon worth more than the price. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Jack Bech in No. 69 lands just on the right side of the ledger. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A premium they did not need to pay, Ozzy Trapilo a notch or two before his time. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
The board had cheaper options than Anthony Belton at the Round 4 slot, and it noticed. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Oronde Gadsden II at slot 145 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A need, and now a little less of one.
Andrew Armstrong at slot 219 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They jumped the gun on Miles Frazier, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A big swing on Brandon Crenshaw-Dickson at pick No. 240, well ahead of any board in the building. It fills a real need, too.
