The tape said wait; the Dolphins did not. Akheem Mesidor went at the 248th pick, a good 35 picks before the board was ready. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B+.
They banked enough surplus on McCoy to cover a lot of smaller sins. The phones were where this weekend was really won. The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
The imported veterans give this class a floor the draft picks could not on their own.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
By-the-book stuff, Tyler Guyton at the 65th overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Cooper Beebe in slot 101. The roster fit checks out.
A tidy little value on Donovan Jackson in No. 131, a step better than break-even. A need, and now a little less of one.
A slide stopped in pick 158, with Ricky Pearsall worth more than the price. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Ajani Cornelius at pick No. 189 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Circle this one: Bru McCoy at the Round 6 slot is a fall that decides a draft. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Tyler Batty at the 205th pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Jack Howell in the Round 6 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A pick in search of a role on this roster.
They reached a country mile for Akheem Mesidor at No. 248, and the board is aghast. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
