Call it a hunch or call it a gamble, but the Ravens spent No. 162 on Kaelon Black, a name most had 57 spots down the list. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B-.
They will regret leaving cornerback for another day if the season turns on it. If one pick saves this weekend, it is Branch.
Interior defensive lineman is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it. They came away with juice, if not much beef up front.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 14 they get a seam-stretching tight end at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Sam Hecht. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Zachariah Branch in slot 80. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They took Taurean York at par in pick No. 115, which is nothing to complain about. A minor need, but a need all the same.
They reached a country mile for Dae'Quan Wright at No. 154, and the board is aghast. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Kaelon Black in pick 162 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Fair-plus on Louis Moore, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Value with a capital V on Kage Casey in the Round 5 slot, a genuine coup. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A clean, defensible pick in pick 211 with a little surplus value in Aaron Graves. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Value said wait; Wesley Bissainthe in pick No. 250 says they were not listening. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
Jamal Haynes in Round 7, Pick 37 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. The roster fit checks out.
