New England Patriots

The Patriots got the worse of every deal, and it shows in the C.

The Patriots spent real capital to be 60 picks early on Miles Frazier, and the board is going to hold them to it. Fine in stretches, shaky in others: a C.

The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Walker. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped safety, which is a strange place to end up.

They went 5 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.

Not a disaster, not a triumph, just a middling class.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.11 · Pick 11 · Ashton Jeanty · RB · rank 2
In Round 1, Pick 11 they get a workhorse for the backfield, outstanding value to boot. A clean fit for the roster.
R2.6 · Pick 38 · Jalon Walker · LB · rank 20
They robbed the room for Jalon Walker here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It adds depth where they could use a little.
R3.5 · Pick 69 · Dylan Fairchild · OG · rank 94
They left a pile of value on the table to take Dylan Fairchild this early at No. 69. It fills a real need, too.
R3.11 · Pick 75 · Donovan Jackson · OT · rank 86
A premium they did not need to pay, Donovan Jackson a notch or two before his time. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R3.13 · Pick 77 · Omarr Norman-Lott · DT · rank 74
Omarr Norman-Lott in the 77th overall pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R3.35 · Pick 99 · Emery Jones Jr. · OT · rank 128
They talked themselves into Emery Jones Jr. at the Round 3 slot, and the board did not agree. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R4.4 · Pick 105 · Tez Johnson · WR · rank 90
Tez Johnson at pick No. 105 is money in the bank, a wide receiver taken below his worth. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R4.23 · Pick 124 · Darius Alexander · DT · rank 131
Darius Alexander at slot 124 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R4.38 · Pick 139 · Mello Dotson · CB · rank 140
They took Mello Dotson at par in the 139th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. A minor itch, scratched.
R5.6 · Pick 145 · Raheim Sanders · RB · rank 158
Raheim Sanders at the 145th pick is a conviction pick that outran the value. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R5.38 · Pick 177 · Fadil Diggs · DL-EDGE · rank 231
Fadil Diggs at pick 177 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R6.5 · Pick 183 · Miles Frazier · OG · rank 243
A big swing on Miles Frazier at No. 183, well ahead of any board in the building. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
