You build a draft on nights like this. Keon Coleman had no business being available in pick No. 72, and the Chargers did the only sane thing and turned in the card. More right than wrong, and a B+ to match.
The phones were where this weekend was really won. The Sinnott reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade.
A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want. The Breece Hall deal gives the class an established piece to lean on.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 10 they get a go-to option on the outside. The biggest hole, addressed.
A reach for T'Vondre Sweat in the 37th pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Mike Sainristil in pick 69. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Keon Coleman in No. 72 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Zak Zinter in the 104th overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They talked themselves into Ben Sinnott at slot 112, and the board did not agree. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They took Kalen King at par in the Round 5 slot, which is nothing to complain about. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Braiden McGregor in Round 6, Pick 5 lands just on the right side of the ledger. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Frank Gore Jr. at pick 225 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Circle this one: Sheridan Jones at pick No. 253 is a fall that decides a draft. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
