Los Angeles Chargers

The Chargers robbed the room for Coleman. Final grade: B+.

Future B

You build a draft on nights like this. Keon Coleman had no business being available in pick No. 72, and the Chargers did the only sane thing and turned in the card. More right than wrong, and a B+ to match.

The phones were where this weekend was really won. The Sinnott reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade.

A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want. The Breece Hall deal gives the class an established piece to lean on.

In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.10 · Pick 10 · Rome Odunze · WR · rank 9
In pick No. 10 they get a go-to option on the outside. The biggest hole, addressed.
R2.5 · Pick 37 · T'Vondre Sweat · DT · rank 48
A reach for T'Vondre Sweat in the 37th pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R3.5 · Pick 69 · Mike Sainristil · CB · rank 66
A reasonable price with a little left over, Mike Sainristil in pick 69. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R3.8 · Pick 72 · Keon Coleman · WR · rank 36
Keon Coleman in No. 72 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R4.4 · Pick 104 · Zak Zinter · OG · rank 104
Zak Zinter in the 104th overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R4.12 · Pick 112 · Ben Sinnott · TE · rank 132
They talked themselves into Ben Sinnott at slot 112, and the board did not agree. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R5.3 · Pick 139 · Kalen King · CB · rank 140
They took Kalen King at par in the Round 5 slot, which is nothing to complain about. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R6.5 · Pick 180 · Braiden McGregor · DE-EDGE · rank 173
Braiden McGregor in Round 6, Pick 5 lands just on the right side of the ledger. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R7.5 · Pick 225 · Frank Gore Jr. · RB · rank 224
Frank Gore Jr. at pick 225 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R7.33 · Pick 253 · Sheridan Jones · CB · rank 232
Circle this one: Sheridan Jones at pick No. 253 is a fall that decides a draft. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
