The Carson Steele selection is the head-turner. The Patriots reached 95 spots for him, and it will define how this weekend is remembered. More right than wrong, and a B+ to match.
They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own. Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. The Taylor-Demerson pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged.
The Patriots clearly valued win-now help, adding bodies who have done it before.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick-by-Pick
Rome Odunze in slot 11 is fair value, right on his grade. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
In pick 23 they get protection for the quarterback at fair value.
A straight-up fair deal on Jordan Morgan at No. 34, value and slot in agreement. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Dadrion Taylor-Demerson in pick No. 103 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They took Jarrian Jones at par in the 137th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. A minor itch, scratched.
Tip Reiman at the 180th pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A market-rate quarterback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Joe Milton III. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They talked themselves into Carson Steele at pick 231, and the board did not agree. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
