Whoever sat across the table from the Cowboys should ask for a receipt. They cleaned the room out, prying loose far more value than they gave up, and it was the quiet MVP of their weekend. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.
Powers-Johnson has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Landing Perry that late papers over a lot of smaller sins.
The Jamaree Salyer pickup adds a known quantity to a class of unknowns.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
A reach for Jackson Powers-Johnson in Round 2, Pick 5; a little patience would have been rewarded. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They jumped the gun on Mekhi Wingo, taking him earlier than his grade liked. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They took Junior Colson at par in No. 69, which is nothing to complain about. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A premium they did not need to pay, Audric Estime a notch or two before his time. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Khyree Jackson at pick 105 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Good price on Darius Robinson in the Round 4 slot, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
They paid a round early for Josh Proctor in pick No. 174, more than the board wanted. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
They paid sticker price for Isaiah Neyor in the 212th overall pick, and that is fine. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Nice patience on Mark Perry, who had no business lasting to pick No. 245. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
