This is the pick they will still be bragging about in July: Jalen Milroe, the No. 101 name on the board, stolen at the 153rd pick. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.
The Thornton Jr. pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. That running back hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. They left with quarterback solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 17 they get juice off the edge, even if it was a touch early. The biggest hole, addressed.
Jonah Savaiinaea in Round 2, Pick 15 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Carson Schwesinger at slot 78 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Taking Tez Johnson in pick 114 is close to grand larceny; a wide receiver that good had no business lasting this long. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They paid a round early for Darius Alexander in the Round 4 slot, more than the board wanted. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Jalen Milroe at the 153rd overall pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Dont'e Thornton Jr. in pick No. 154 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
