Call it larceny. Lathan Ransom sat on the board until pick No. 153, and the Cardinals did not need to be asked twice.
They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it. Reaching for Trapilo left real value on the table behind him. On the needs board they went 5 of 8, with wide receiver the one that mattered most.
Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 16 they get a disruptor off the edge at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Tyleik Williams in Round 2, Pick 22. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A reach on Ozzy Trapilo in the 78th overall pick; the board had better options right there. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Taking Jalen Royals in pick No. 87 is close to grand larceny; a wide receiver that good had no business lasting this long. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Danny Stutsman in No. 114 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Steal is underselling it; Lathan Ransom at the Round 5 slot is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
