Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Patriots were there to profit. Smael Mondon Jr., the No. 105 name on the board, should have been long gone before slot 200.
The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up.
Cornelius has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced.
Add it up and few war rooms did better this weekend, Will Campbell and all.
Pick-by-Pick
They took Will Campbell at par in Round 1, Pick 15, which is nothing to complain about. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They let Tate Ratledge come to them and pounced at No. 45. It fills a real need, too.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Ajani Cornelius. The roster fit checks out.
They barely believed it either: Andrew Mukuba still on the board at pick No. 105. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They robbed the room for Smael Mondon Jr. here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
