The Eagles did not so much draft Tommy Eichenberg as overpay for him, 25 picks clear of his grade. It sets an uneasy tone for the weekend.
They will regret leaving interior defensive lineman for another day if the season turns on it. The Jones pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged.
They will answer for taking linebacker early while interior defensive lineman and quarterback went begging.
If Chop Robinson and a couple of the gambles land, hindsight will be kinder than this grade.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 22nd overall pick they get a quarterback's worst nightmare at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Tyler Nubin is a better player than No. 50 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A clean, defensible pick in pick No. 53 with a little surplus value in Edgerrin Cooper. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
A want over a need in pick 120: Tommy Eichenberg adds a linebacker while interior defensive lineman and quarterback keeps waiting.
A conviction pick on Ben Sinnott at slot 121 that the board grades a round light. It fills a real need, too.
A straight-up fair deal on Jaylin Simpson at the Round 4 slot, value and slot in agreement. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Mason McCormick at Round 5, Pick 9 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Luke McCaffrey in pick No. 147 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Nothing to complain about; Kitan Oladapo went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A need, and now a little less of one.
A tidy bit of business in pick 171, where Tykee Smith graded well above the range. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Fair-plus on Dillon Johnson, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Trente Jones slid further than he should have, and the Round 6 slot is lovely value for the offensive lineman. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
