The Cowboys looked at the value chart, folded it up, and took Barryn Sorrell at pick 174 regardless, 136 picks early.
Leaving offensive lineman unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Landing Tuten that late papers over a lot of smaller sins.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 25 they get a matchup problem out wide at a price that makes it sweeter. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Omarion Hampton at No. 44 is money in the bank, a running back taken below his worth. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Alfred Collins at Round 2, Pick 26 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The roster fit checks out.
A reach on Danny Stutsman in the 76th pick; the board had better options right there. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A tidy little value on Billy Bowman Jr. in pick No. 127, a step better than break-even. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Jacob Parrish at the 150th overall pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Bhayshul Tuten in the 170th pick is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They talked themselves into Kyle Williams at the Round 5 slot, and the board did not agree. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They reached into another round for Barryn Sorrell, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Nick Martin in pick No. 190, miles early. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Brady Cook at slot 211 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A quiet steal in pick 249: Jake Briningstool for less than the market said. A need, and now a little less of one.
