Start where it matters. The Raiders took Michael Penix Jr. to run the offense for the next decade, and every other decision this weekend bends around that one. The sum of the weekend is a deserved A-.
Reaching for Culp left real value on the table behind him. On value alone, Magee makes the weekend a net positive.
Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher.
Add it up and few war rooms did better this weekend, Michael Penix Jr. and all.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 24 they get the face of the franchise, outstanding value to boot.
Christian Haynes in the Round 2 slot is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A quiet steal in pick No. 77: Kiran Amegadjie for less than the market said. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A tidy bit of business in the 87th pick, where Javon Baker graded well above the range. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
DeWayne Carter at pick 112 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Jaylin Simpson at No. 148 is a conviction pick that outran the value. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Jordan Magee in the 208th overall pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Jase McClellan in slot 223 lands just on the right side of the ledger. A need, and now a little less of one.
Devin Culp at the 229th overall pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It fills a real need, too.
A clean, defensible pick in slot 232 with a little surplus value in Justin Rogers. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
