The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Giants spent their marquee pick on J.J. McCarthy, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B-.
They banked enough surplus on Stover to cover a lot of smaller sins. The interior defensive lineman spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
If McCarthy pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about.
Good work on the whole, with interior defensive lineman the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 10 they get a long-term answer under center, though the board says they badly overpaid.
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Xavier Worthy. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Taking Tyler Nubin in Round 3, Pick 6 is close to grand larceny; a safety that good had no business lasting this long. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Circle this one: Cade Stover at the Round 4 slot is a fall that decides a draft. The roster fit checks out.
Roger Rosengarten in the 141st pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A slide stopped in the 183rd overall pick, with Dillon Johnson worth more than the price. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Braiden McGregor slid further than he should have, and pick 185 is lovely value for the edge rusher. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
