The Cowboys spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: Blake Miller, the No. 70 name on the board, in pick 126. Good, not great, and the B says as much.
Leaving tight end unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Every board in the league had Ward lower, and that gap is the story.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but tight end.
Pick-by-Pick
They paid up for Cameron Ward at the 52nd overall pick when waiting would have done the job. A need, and now a little less of one.
Xavier Nwankpa at No. 72 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Deion Burks in Round 3, Pick 30 is fair value, right on his grade. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They paid sticker price for DJ Giddens in pick 104, and that is fine. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Smael Mondon Jr. at pick No. 116 is the proof. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Circle this one: Blake Miller at the Round 4 slot is a fall that decides a draft. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They took T.J. Sanders at par in slot 158, which is nothing to complain about. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Noah Daniels is a better player than the 190th pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Nice patience on Will Sheppard, who had no business lasting to slot 222. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
