Call it larceny. Eli Stowers sat on the board until pick 85, and the Steelers did not need to be asked twice. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B.
If Green pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up.
Small wins on the phones, but wins all the same. Job largely done: quarterback settled and 6 of 9 of the wish list covered.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 28 they get a home-run threat at receiver. A clean fit for the roster.
Emmanuel McNeil-Warren at the 40th overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Chase Bisontis at the 60th pick nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. A minor itch, scratched.
D'Angelo Ponds at pick No. 69 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They will replay Eli Stowers at Round 3, Pick 21 for years; that is how good the value is. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Kaleb Proctor in pick 135 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Taylen Green in slot 161, miles early. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Taking Josh Cameron in the Round 6 slot is close to grand larceny; a wide receiver that good had no business lasting this long. It fills a real need, too.
A premium they did not need to pay, Kaden Wetjen a notch or two before his time. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
