Nobody dealt better than the Cowboys this weekend: B+.

The Cowboys torched the value chart for Jordan Jefferson, taking him 71 spots sooner than anyone had him slotted. More right than wrong, and a B+ to match.

Simpson at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. The phones were where this weekend was really won. They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it.

They went 6 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.

In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.32 · Pick 32 · Troy Fautanu · OT · rank 22
In slot 32 they get a plug-and-play piece up front at a price that makes it sweeter. Exactly the need they had to hit.
R2.24 · Pick 56 · Graham Barton · OT · rank 26
Circle this one: Graham Barton at the Round 2 slot is a fall that decides a draft. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R2.29 · Pick 61 · Xavier Worthy · WR · rank 55
They did well to land Xavier Worthy in the 61st overall pick, just ahead of his grade. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R3.9 · Pick 73 · Braelon Allen · RB · rank 106
Braelon Allen at pick 73 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R3.24 · Pick 87 · Cedric Gray · LB · rank 113
Cedric Gray at Round 3, Pick 24 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R4.13 · Pick 113 · Jordan Jefferson · DT · rank 184
They reached into another round for Jordan Jefferson, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R4.28 · Pick 128 · Braiden McGregor · DE-EDGE · rank 173
They reached a country mile for Braiden McGregor at slot 128, and the board is aghast. A minor itch, scratched.
R4.32 · Pick 132 · Cam Hart · CB · rank 100
Somehow Cam Hart was still sitting there in the Round 4 slot, and they pounced on premier cornerback value. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R5.28 · Pick 164 · Drake Nugent · C · rank 211
Drake Nugent in the 164th pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R5.38 · Pick 174 · Jaylin Simpson · CB · rank 137
They will replay Jaylin Simpson at pick 174 for years; that is how good the value is. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R6.41 · Pick 216 · Julian Pearl · OT · rank 203
The board had Julian Pearl higher than No. 216, and the offensive lineman fell to them anyway. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R7.13 · Pick 233 · JD Bertrand · LB · rank 220
JD Bertrand is a better player than pick No. 233 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R7.24 · Pick 244 · Marcellas Dial · CB · rank 243
A straight-up fair deal on Marcellas Dial at Round 7, Pick 24, value and slot in agreement. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
