The board owed the Cowboys one, and it paid up: Malachi Corley, the No. 55 name on the board, sitting there at Round 3, Pick 24 like a gift left on the doorstep. A dependable weekend that grades out a B.
For all the activity, tight end went untouched, which is hard to explain. A modest surplus at the table, banked quietly. The Gore Jr. reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade.
Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
Bo Nix in pick No. 42 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They paid sticker price for Kingsley Suamataia in the 56th overall pick, and that is fine. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A clean, defensible pick in Round 3, Pick 7 with a little surplus value in Jeremiah Trotter Jr.. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
No edge and no loss on Khyree Jackson in the Round 3 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Malachi Corley at slot 87 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Kitan Oladapo at No. 174 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Jordan Jefferson at pick 188 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Frank Gore Jr. in the 216th pick is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. The roster fit checks out.
By-the-book stuff, Tayvion Robinson at the 233rd pick squarely in line with his ranking. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Kimani Vidal at pick No. 244 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
