It is the swing that defines the weekend: DeMonte Capehart in the Round 7 slot, a good 152 spots before the room expected him. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.
However the rest shakes out, Harden at that price is a win they earned. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through quarterback. A modest surplus at the table, banked quietly.
They went 6 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 31st pick they get a plug-and-play piece up front at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
They did well to land Payton Wilson in the Round 2 slot, just ahead of his grade. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A conviction pick on Xavier Legette at pick 63 that the board grades a round light. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
No drama and no debate, Trey Benson went about where he belonged in Round 3, Pick 24. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Jaylan Ford this early at pick No. 173. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Value said wait; Javontae Jean-Baptiste in slot 209 says they were not listening. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Circle this one: Myles Harden at slot 213 is a fall that decides a draft. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A wild overpay on DeMonte Capehart in Round 7, Pick 22, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
