The Cowboys put a flag in the ground for Evan Anderson, 49 picks before anyone else would have, and the value took the hit.
The Jones pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a blindside protector at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Kingsley Suamataia at slot 56 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A quiet steal in the 87th overall pick: Ja'Lynn Polk for less than the market said. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Isaac Guerendo at No. 128 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It fills a real need, too.
Marist Liufau at pick No. 134 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Jordan Jefferson. A need, and now a little less of one.
Jarrian Jones at pick No. 174 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They barely believed it either: Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint still on the board at slot 216. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A big swing on Evan Anderson at the 233rd overall pick, well ahead of any board in the building. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They read the board right and Trevin Wallace was the payoff at Round 7, Pick 24. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
