When a board-topper like Ryan Flournoy slides to Round 7, Pick 13, you do not overthink it, and the Cowboys did not. The bottom line is a respectable B.
The cost of the Vidal reach is exactly the players who went right after him. That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. They went 5 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 29 they get a lockdown presence outside, and a steal at that. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Kingsley Suamataia in the 56th overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A slide stopped in pick No. 87, with Ja'Lynn Polk worth more than the price. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Cody Schrader in the Round 5 slot is fair value, right on his grade. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A wild overpay on Kimani Vidal in the 225th pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. The roster fit checks out.
Taking Ryan Flournoy in pick 233 is close to grand larceny; a wide receiver that good had no business lasting this long. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Garret Greenfield at Round 7, Pick 24 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They barely believed it either: Trevin Wallace still on the board at slot 253. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
