The Cowboys put a flag in the ground for Solomon Byrd, 45 picks before anyone else would have, and the value took the hit.
For all the activity, cornerback went untouched, which is hard to explain. The Wallace steal is the beam this whole class leans on. Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 5 of 8 of the wish list covered.
The dealing was even money, start to finish.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 27 they get a long-term starter on the line. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Ricky Pearsall in the Round 2 slot is fair value, right on his grade. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Trey Benson in No. 87 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Cedric Gray at Round 3, Pick 27 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
The board had cheaper options than Jordan Jefferson at slot 174, and it noticed. The roster fit checks out.
Value said wait; Solomon Byrd in pick 216 says they were not listening. A minor itch, scratched.
A conviction pick on KT Leveston at the 233rd overall pick that the board grades a round light. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A tidy bit of business in slot 244, where Trevin Wallace graded well above the range. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
