The needs board said one thing and the Packers did another, using slot 125 on James Williams while edge rusher, quarterback and other spots waited.
Kinchens falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick-by-Pick
They read the board right and Quinyon Mitchell was the payoff at pick 41. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Kamren Kinchens is a better player than Round 2, Pick 17 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A minor need, but a need all the same.
No drama and no debate, T'Vondre Sweat went about where he belonged in the 57th pick. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Junior Colson at the 88th overall pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A minor itch, scratched.
They took Zak Zinter at par in pick No. 91, which is nothing to complain about. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A tidy little value on Max Melton in the Round 4 slot, a step better than break-even. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, James Williams adds a safety and leaves edge rusher, quarterback and other spots untouched.
Cam Hart at No. 135 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
