Somebody in pick 243 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Texans sat still while Craig Woodson, the No. 207 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. Some smart calls, some head-scratchers, and a C+ in the wash.
They are betting Belton proves the room right and everyone else wrong. The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
In the end, a coin-flip class: fine today, with a wide range of outcomes ahead.
Pick-by-Pick
A straight-up fair deal on Isaiah Bond at Round 2, Pick 17, value and slot in agreement. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A reach for Donovan Ezeiruaku in pick No. 58; a little patience would have been rewarded. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Value said wait; Anthony Belton in the 89th overall pick says they were not listening. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Darius Alexander in the 118th pick is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They paid a round early for LeQuint Allen in No. 127, more than the board wanted. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A conviction pick on Cobee Bryant at slot 167 that the board grades a round light. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Steal is underselling it; Craig Woodson at the Round 7 slot is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
