Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Cowboys were there to profit. M.J. Devonshire, the No. 190 name on the board, should have been long gone before Round 6, Pick 41.
Every board in the league had Allen lower, and that gap is the story. A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want.
Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job. Quantity was the play, for better or worse.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 32 they get a cornerstone up front. Exactly the need they had to hit.
They did well to land Edgerrin Cooper in pick 56, just ahead of his grade. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Braelon Allen in the 87th pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
No drama and no debate, Jalen McMillan went about where he belonged in No. 95. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
McKinnley Jackson in the 128th overall pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Xavier Thomas at Round 5, Pick 38 is the proof. A minor itch, scratched.
Circle this one: M.J. Devonshire at the Round 6 slot is a fall that decides a draft. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
No edge and no loss on Trevin Wallace in pick No. 233; it is a wash and a sensible one. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A quiet steal in the 244th pick: Tylan Grable for less than the market said. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
