The real work happened on the phones. The Bears fleeced their trade partners, turning their picks into a noticeably bigger pile than they started with.
They banked enough surplus on Warren to cover a lot of smaller sins. The interior defensive lineman spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. Adding Andrew Van Ginkel by trade rounds out the weekend beyond the rookies.
Edge rusher was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
Bottom line, with Shemar Stewart leading the way, this is a class that should pay off fast and rarely be regretted.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 24 they get a bendy edge with upside at a price that makes it sweeter. The biggest hole, addressed.
Circle this one: Tyler Warren at the 39th pick is a fall that decides a draft. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Omarion Hampton slid further than he should have, and pick 41 is lovely value for the running back. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Cameron Williams in the 72nd overall pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A need, and now a little less of one.
They robbed the room for Isaiah Bond here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Kevin Winston Jr. in the Round 4 slot. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
They took O'Donnell Fortune at par in the Round 5 slot, which is nothing to complain about. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
