The Patriots spent real capital to be 121 picks early on Jarquez Hunter, and the board is going to hold them to it. Call it a sensible B+, earned the boring way.
Kiser at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
Tyler Warren at Round 1, Pick 17 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Kenneth Grant slid further than he should have, and the Round 2 slot is lovely value for the interior defensive lineman. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A big swing on Ozzy Trapilo at pick 69, well ahead of any board in the building. A need, and now a little less of one.
Value said wait; Ajani Cornelius in the 77th overall pick says they were not listening. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Jake Majors is a better player than pick No. 105 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A quiet steal in the 108th pick: Kevin Winston Jr. for less than the market said. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Davison Igbinosun at the 130th overall pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
They left a pile of value on the table to take DJ Campbell this early at pick 143. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A linebacker of that caliber at Round 7, Pick 1 is the definition of value, full stop. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
A real head-scratcher, Jarquez Hunter in the 220th pick is miles ahead of his ranking. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They reached into another round for Myles Hinton, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
