The Cowboys bet big and early on Phillip Webb, 117 picks ahead of the board. Bold does not always mean right. It nets out to a B, which feels about right.
That is a running back worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. A whole weekend of picks and cornerback is somehow still a want.
Small wins on the phones, but wins all the same. Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
Good work on the whole, with cornerback the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get an every-down engine for the run game, and a steal at that. A clean fit for the roster.
JT Tuimoloau in the 44th pick is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Taking Kenneth Grant in pick 49 is close to grand larceny; an interior defensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. The roster fit checks out.
Circle this one: Tyler Warren at slot 76 is a fall that decides a draft. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They did well to land Savion Williams in No. 118, just ahead of his grade. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A top-tier linebacker at a bargain, Chris Paul Jr. in pick No. 148, plain and simple. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They will replay Nicholas Singleton at the Round 5 slot for years; that is how good the value is. A need, and now a little less of one.
A linebacker of that caliber at Round 5, Pick 33 is the definition of value, full stop. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Phillip Webb in slot 171, miles early. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
