The Giants spent the pick that matters most on J.J. McCarthy, and a roster that has been waiting on a passer can start to take shape. It nets out to a B-, which feels about right.

The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close. Thomas Jr. at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. A whole weekend of picks and interior defensive lineman is somehow still a want.

In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the interior defensive lineman spot they never got to.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.17 · Pick 17 · J.J. McCarthy · QB · rank 29
In slot 17 they get the arm they will build around, though they paid up to get him.
R2.15 · Pick 47 · Brian Thomas Jr. · WR · rank 26
You do not let a wide receiver like Brian Thomas Jr. reach pick No. 47 and blink. They did not. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R3.6 · Pick 70 · Blake Corum · RB · rank 84
They jumped the gun on Blake Corum, taking him earlier than his grade liked. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R4.7 · Pick 107 · Matt Goncalves · OT · rank 103
A tidy little value on Matt Goncalves in No. 107, a step better than break-even. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R5.10 · Pick 146 · Jarrian Jones · CB · rank 137
Jarrian Jones in the 146th overall pick is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. The roster fit checks out.
R6.8 · Pick 183 · Ty'Ron Hopper · LB · rank 181
No edge and no loss on Ty'Ron Hopper in the 183rd pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
R7.1 · Pick 221 · Trey Knox · TE · rank 223
Trey Knox at Round 7, Pick 1 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A need, and now a little less of one.
R7.22 · Pick 242 · Kalen DeLoach · S · rank 247
No drama and no debate, Kalen DeLoach went about where he belonged in pick 242. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
