The Giants spent the pick that matters most on J.J. McCarthy, and a roster that has been waiting on a passer can start to take shape. It nets out to a B-, which feels about right.
The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close. Thomas Jr. at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. A whole weekend of picks and interior defensive lineman is somehow still a want.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the interior defensive lineman spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 17 they get the arm they will build around, though they paid up to get him.
You do not let a wide receiver like Brian Thomas Jr. reach pick No. 47 and blink. They did not. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They jumped the gun on Blake Corum, taking him earlier than his grade liked. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A tidy little value on Matt Goncalves in No. 107, a step better than break-even. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Jarrian Jones in the 146th overall pick is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. The roster fit checks out.
No edge and no loss on Ty'Ron Hopper in the 183rd pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Trey Knox at Round 7, Pick 1 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A need, and now a little less of one.
