The Giants looked at the value chart, folded it up, and took Jack Westover at the 197th pick regardless, 124 picks early.
The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. On value alone, James makes the weekend a net positive. Leaving interior defensive lineman unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the interior defensive lineman spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 8 they get a true top target at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
They took J.J. McCarthy at par in the 43rd pick, which is nothing to complain about. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They did well to land Adisa Isaac in pick 54, just ahead of his grade. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They paid sticker price for Kamren Kinchens in pick No. 70, and that is fine. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
DJ James in Round 4, Pick 7 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Tommy Eichenberg at slot 141 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
A market-rate running back, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Kendall Milton. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
