You could see the war room lean forward. Ryan Fitzgerald at No. 219 is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did.

They will need Lundt to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. The safety spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. A small leak at the table, if not a fatal one.

On the needs board they went 6 of 8, with edge rusher the one that mattered most.

Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.12 · Pick 12 · Josh Simmons · OT · rank 16
In pick No. 12 they get a long-term starter on the line at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
R2.6 · Pick 38 · Elic Ayomanor · WR · rank 57
Elic Ayomanor at pick 38 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R2.12 · Pick 44 · Donovan Ezeiruaku · DE-EDGE · rank 72
They reached a country mile for Donovan Ezeiruaku at slot 44, and the board is aghast. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R3.5 · Pick 69 · Deone Walker · DT · rank 67
They paid sticker price for Deone Walker in No. 69, and that is fine. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R3.13 · Pick 77 · Tate Ratledge · OG · rank 75
They took Tate Ratledge at par in the 77th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R4.4 · Pick 105 · Chase Lundt · OT · rank 172
A big swing on Chase Lundt at the 105th pick, well ahead of any board in the building. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R5.6 · Pick 145 · Jake Majors · C · rank 107
Jake Majors in the Round 5 slot is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R7.1 · Pick 219 · Ryan Fitzgerald · PK · rank 117
Somehow Ryan Fitzgerald was still sitting there in Round 7, Pick 1, and they pounced on premier specialist value. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
R7.4 · Pick 222 · Marcus Yarns · RB · rank 230
They paid up for Marcus Yarns at slot 222 when waiting would have done the job. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R7.22 · Pick 240 · Jackson Hawes · TE · rank 237
Good price on Jackson Hawes in Round 7, Pick 22, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It fills a real need, too.
R7.31 · Pick 249 · Gentry Williams · CB · rank 295
A real head-scratcher, Gentry Williams in pick 249 is miles ahead of his ranking. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
