The search is over. The Patriots handed the keys to Shedeur Sanders, and the whole operation now runs on his development.
A whole weekend of picks and interior defensive lineman is somehow still a want. They will need Marshall Jr. to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. They gave back a little on the phones for the right to move.
Edge rusher was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
Good work on the whole, with interior defensive lineman the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get their guy under center for the next decade at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Xavier Worthy at Round 2, Pick 3 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the wide receiver. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Patrick Paul in slot 51. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Ja'Lynn Polk at pick No. 67 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Christian Haynes at pick 97 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They paid a round early for Jason Marshall Jr. in the 103rd overall pick, more than the board wanted. It adds depth where they could use a little.
No drama and no debate, Tyler Guyton went about where he belonged in the 140th pick. A need, and now a little less of one.
Gabriel Murphy is a better player than No. 178 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
By-the-book stuff, Raheim Sanders at the Round 6 slot squarely in line with his ranking. It fills a real need, too.
The board had cheaper options than Michael Trigg at No. 253, and it noticed. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
