Thirty-one other rooms let Isaiah Williams slide, and the Packers were the ones holding the card at the Round 7 slot. Highway robbery.
The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer. If Colson pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. The Packers indulged a want in Bullard while a need in edge rusher, quarterback and other spots stayed open.
In the end, one you will need a couple of seasons to truly judge.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 25 they get a centerfielder for the defense. More want than need.
They took T.J. Tampa at par in No. 41, which is nothing to complain about. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A wild overpay on Junior Colson in Round 2, Pick 25, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went safety with Javon Bullard while clear needs at edge rusher, quarterback and other spots sat open.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Cooper Beebe in the 82nd pick. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They liked Audric Estime enough to skip the value, taking him in the Round 3 slot. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A market-rate interior defensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Tyler Davis. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Christian Jones in the 219th overall pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. The roster fit checks out.
Isaiah Williams at Round 7, Pick 26 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
