After circling the position for what felt like forever, the Commanders committed. Caleb Williams is the quarterback now, and the roster gets built to his timeline.
Every board in the league had Wiley lower, and that gap is the story. They banked enough surplus on Haynes to cover a lot of smaller sins.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped interior defensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up. On the needs board they went 7 of 8, with wide receiver the one that mattered most.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 2 they get their quarterback of the future. A clean fit for the roster.
Darius Robinson in the Round 2 slot is fair value, right on his grade. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Roman Wilson at Round 2, Pick 8 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
No edge and no loss on Kiran Amegadjie in the 68th overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Christian Haynes at slot 78 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They paid sticker price for Cam Hart in the 100th pick, and that is fine. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Nice patience on Isaac Guerendo, who had no business lasting to pick No. 137. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Jared Wiley in pick 139 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
The board had cheaper options than Marist Liufau at pick 152, and it noticed. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
